Artist. Born in 1978 in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School with a Master’s Degree in 2005. Through collaboration with local residents, he has exhibited art projects in many places to use art to connect local cultures and nature, and to even remake how we view the local landscape. He thinks that art can now serve as a tool for connecting diverse people with each other. The perspective he gained from sailing the 4,000 km from Micronesia to Japan in 2005 formed the foundation for his later work.

His representative projects include an art project named Kusukaki (Raking Up Camphor Leaves, 2010- ongoing) in the camphor forest of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine in Fukuoka Prefecture, which he intends to be a continuous project that will last a thousand years. Sora-ami (Knitting the Sky, Setouchi Triennale 2013 and 2016), captures seaside sceneries by knitting fishing nets towards the sky together with local fishermen. Kumo-yui (Tying Cloud Knots, Japan Alps Arts Festival 2017), seeks to tie a braid to connect a lake with the clouds in collaboration with the people living in a mountain village. Toki wo Tabaneru (Bundling Time, Antarctic Biennale 2017), is a project to braid together with people from every part of the world. Setting the braid at the South Pole where all the time zones of the world converge, they can liken the meridians of the world to the strings of a kite which they loft together.

As a member of TURN project in the cultural program for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, he participated in TURN Fes (2016-2018 at Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum), TURN in BRAZIL (2016 in Brazil) and TURN in BIENALSUR (2017 in Peru).
